November 26, 2007 – 7:44 pm

Side effects of taking Acyclovir, that may diminish or disappear completely during treatment, include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or headache. If symptoms continue or are bothersome, talk to your doctor. Some people have suffered hair loss from prolonged use. Others have reported dizziness, fatigue, skin rash, anorexia, leg pain, medication taste and sore throat.

It is possible to reduce digestive side effects by taking medication with meals. You can avoid nausea for example dry salted crackers and not lying down after you eat.

There some medications such Compazine, Reglan, and Phenergan that can easily reduce. Aspirin or other pain pills may help with headaches. Your doctor should adjust your dosage if your side effects are severe.

You should get emergency medical help if you noticed any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. In case if you have any of these serious side effects you should stop using acyclovir and call your doctor immediately.

* urinating less than usual or not at all;
* easy bruising or bleeding;
* unusual weakness.

You can continue taking acyclovir but anyway should talk to your doctor if you have any of the following less serious side effects:

* nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach pain;
* headache, feeling light-headed; or
* swelling in your hands or feet.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
